Rishi Sunak is the first Indian Origin prime minister in 210 years. He is the youngest Britain’s Prime Minister. Sunak has been a Conservative Party member for Richmond (Yorks) since 2015. Sunak was born in a family of immigrants. His grandparents immigrated from Punjab, in northeastern India, to East Africa, where his father Yashvir was born in Tanzania and mother Usha was born in Kenya, respectively. Parents of Indian Punjabi descent. Sunak’s paternal grandpa was from Gujranwala (now Pakistan), while his maternal grandfather was from Ludhiana (now India); both places were in British India’s Punjab region at the time. In the 1960s, his grandparents moved to East Africa, then to the United Kingdom. They met and married when their families moved to Southampton, England, in the 1960s. Sunak’s father was a general practitioner for the National Health Service. His mother, a pharmacist, owned and operated a small pharmacy. Sunak is eldest among three children.
